Liderança VIP : estudo exploratório dos estilos de liderança de técnicos desportivos de Vila Nova de Gaia

Abstract

Partindo da análise da teoria de Liderança VIP (Tavares, 2012), e tendo presente os seus pressupostos inovadores, realizou-se uma investigação com o objetivo de perceber até que ponto os pressupostos desta teoria, exp0licavam de alguma forma a Liderança desportiva. Sendo uma teoria inovadora surgiu o desafio de testá-la na realidade na liderança desportiva. Para tal começamos por abordar o conceito, bem como as diferentes teorias de liderança e o seu contributo para a compreensão da realidade que nos propomos estudar. Para tal utilizamos uma metodologia qualitativa, com a realização de entrevistas a líderes desportivos. Da análise das entrevistas pudemos depreender que a teoria de Liderança VIP ajudou a explicar a liderança nas organizações desportivas. Foi possível ainda observar que a teoria VIP não depende do tipo de liderança adotada, mas sim, das características do perfil do líder responsável pela modalidade ou clube. Espera-se assim, ter contribuído de alguma forma para a compreensão da liderança numa área tão importante como o desporto, apontando algumas características de liderança, sustentadas pela teoria de Liderança VIP importantes para o sucesso desta modalidade.

Based on the analysis of the VIP Leadership theory (Tavares, 2012), and bearing in mind its innovative assumptions, we carried out an investigation in order to understand the extent, to which the assumptions of this theory explained Sports Leadership. Due to the fact that it was an innovative theory, it became a challenge to test it in reality, in sports leadership. In order to do this, we begin by looking at the concept as well as the different theories of leadership and its contribution to the understanding of reality that we propose to study. To achieve this we used a qualitative methodology with interviews to sports leaders. With the results of the analysis of the interviews we could learn that the VIP Leadership theory helped to explain the leadershipin sports organizations. It was also possible to observe that the VIP theory does not depend on the type of leadership adopted, but rather, depends on the characteristics of the profile of the leader responsible for a sport or a club. Having this in mind,we hope to have contributed, in some way, to the understanding of leadership in an important area such as sport, and at the same time pointing out some leadership characteristics, supported by VIP Leadership theory, which is important to the success of this modality.
