Expatriação por iniciativa própria : um estudo exploratório com estudantes africanos em instituições do ensino superior do grande Porto

Abstract

O mundo está em constantes mudanças, nomeadamente a nível ambiental, político, tecnológico, social, demográfico e económico. Por isso, as pessoas estão cada vez mais a procurar conhecimento para se diferenciarem. Por este motivo e com o objetivo de perceber as dificuldades na adaptação ao novo meio, por parte dos estudantes africanos residentes no grande Porto (Portugal), foram feitas 11 entrevistas num grupo e os resultados do estudo mostram que estes estudantes revelaram uma incipiente preparação prévia sendo que alguns nem sobre as diferenças climáticas detinham informação. Salvaguardado o problema económico e garantida a inserção no ensino português, estes estudantes expatriados também revelaram algumas dificuldades na adaptação ao novo meio, tornando-se evidente que descuraram algum conhecimento prévio da sociedade portuguesa, os pré-requisitos para a frequência do ensino a que se candidataram e o correto uso da língua portuguesa, o que lhes dificultou a comunicação e a interação académica e social nos momentos iniciais. Estes resultados seguem novas pistas de investigação que são propostas na parte final desta dissertação.

The world is constantly changing, particularly at the environmental, political, technological, social, demographic and economic levels. So people are increasingly looking after knowledge to differentiate themselves. For this reasonand with the objective of perceiving the difficulties in adapting to the new environment, by the African students residing in the greater Porto (Portugal), 11 interviews were conducted in a group and the results of the study show that, these students revealed an incipient pre-preparation and even had no information on some of the climate differences! Safeguarding the economic problem and guaranteeing the inclusion in Portuguese education, these expatriate students also revealed some difficulties in adapting to the new environment, making it evident that they have neglected some prior knowledge of the Portuguese Society, the prerequisites for attending the school course to which they have applied and the correct use of the Portuguese language, which create to them difficulties to communicate and do the academic and social interaction in the initial moments. These results follow new research tracks that are proposed in the final part of this dissertation.
